The Harlem Renaissance which lasted from 1925 to 1935 was one the most special moments in Black American and American history.

During this episode, Henri Morris and regular guest Kenya Williams
discuss the Harlem Renaissance.

We start the show with Henri sharing a little about his background and how he started researching about the Harlem Renaissance at a young age. Then Henri goes deeper into the Harlem Renaissance and why he feels that it was a significant and important time for Black Americans. Henri tells us why he feels that Black Americans can learn from the Harlem Renaissance and the importance of Blacks learning, knowing and embracing their history.

This episode also had our first live caller to the show! It was a great and historic moment.

Vibe and Vegas Show: Kenya Williams … A Discussion About Molestation

Our first of our regular monthly guests is Kenya Williams. Kenya was born and raised in California. Kenya is the oldest of seven children raised by a single mother and is the mother of one daughter. She is a high school graduate and spent time in the military and the Air Force. Kenya is the owner of two successful businesses.

During our first monthly conversation, we discuss the issue of molestation. The topics range from why Kenya wanted to discuss about this subject, why the Black community needs to discuss this issue that affects Black women and men, her experience and the experiences she has heard from others, how she was molested by five different people between ages of nine and fourteen and how it was “swept under the rug” by her mother, her years of suppression and how she handled seeing the family friend who molested her and it was a breakthrough and forgiveness moment.

We then discuss how has these events shaped her opinion of men,
how sharing this with her daughter has strengthened their relationship, why are we not talking and acting against molestation,
What does the Black community needs to do about this issue? and Is the Black church doing enough to address this issue?

Kenya ends the show with her message for those who have been molested and for those who committed molestation who have not admitted their act.

Vibe and Vegas Show: A Discussion About Molestation With Kenya Williams Live On January 11, 2012 At 10 P.M. EST

Posted in VIBE AND VEGAS SHOW PODCASTS, VIBE AND VEGAS SHOW TAKES with tags , , , , , on January 11, 2012 by The Dr. Vibe Show™

2012 is going to bring some great new features for the listeners of our show. The first new feature is that we are going to have some guests that are going to appear on the show a monthly basis.

The first monthly guest that we would like to share with you is Kenya Williams.

Known to many as “godsbutterfly,” Kenya Williams is no stranger to navigating tough topics. Getting to the heart of the matter while providing probing insights gained from her varied personal experiences is one of Kenya’s many talents. As a certified self-care coach and post abortion counseling and education group facilitator, Kenya is adept at helping others raise the shade to look at things in a new light. A life-long lover of stimulating conversation, she is consistent in her ability to share of herself, while empowering others.

Kenya is a contributing author to the “Gumbo for the Soul” Literacy Anthology series. Her brand of warmth, humor and no nonsense “Kenya-isms” are now empowering a world-wide audience.
When she isn’t enjoying her favorite guilty pleasures of reading all things Beverly Jenkins, a good margarita or creating waist beads (another way she empowers women), Kenya enjoys time spent in nature where quiet reflection is used for “refueling.” Kenya lives in Oakland, CA, where she owns and operates two successful businesses and is the proud mother of one daughter.
